The Getreidegasse
Salzburg´s most famous shopping street gets its charm from the high, small and closely built houses, enticing shops and the wrought-iron gild signs and romantic passageways and courtyards.
The old houses of the street are often decorated with a date, the eye of God or the names of former residents. Typical of the houses are the smaller windows from the first floor upwards and the beautiful house portals. From the front of the houses hang the intricate guild signs of inns, shops and former workshops.
